The Coastal Midwest: The Battle Within Ourselves
It's said that the battle within ourselves will always be one of the hardest things to over come. It constantly pits us against ourselves and leads us to question every choice we make. For Mighty Ships' frontman, Tyler Bachman, The Coastal Midwest epitomizes this constant battle.
"Obviously, the title of the album is ironic," Bachman says. "For me personally, The Coastal Midwest represents a place where I feel like I don't have a piece of solid ground to stand on." He goes on to say, "I hope this album connects with everyone else who has felt like they're nowhere."
With each member of the band moving to other cities and starting new jobs, album took a good part of a year to complete. Similar to their demo album, Tyler worked on each song by writing and bringing them to a full band structure, while Charlie — the band's drummer — had a huge influence on the album rhythmically through different dynamics. The album really came together when the band started working with Matt Jordan — former guitarist of Into it. Over It. — who made the album flourish in a lot of spots.
Overall, the band feels like the album has a lot of potential. "We feel like this album can take us to the next level," Tyler says, "but if it can have an impact on the Normal [Illinois] DIY scene like our last album, we'll be more than happy."
The Coastal Midwest can be downloaded on iTunes and Bandcamp, and can be streamed on Spotify and Soundcloud.
